Episode one - In no man's land
Sergeant Reickhart's unit is recruited to advance to the small town of Sans-du-Voix, which is located in no man's land between the two fronts. Observers have seen movements of German troops nearby, although they appear to have left the town. Two days ago High Command sent a unit in recognition and have not seen them again.
The paratroopers advance between the houses covered by darkness, encountering neither opposition nor any inhabitant of the town.
They reach the first point of interest revealing a German patrol made up of three soldiers who were advancing down the street, a brief firefight starts between both sides, ending with the three Germans dead and one of the American soldiers wounded.
They advance quickly to the next point of interest, finding three American soldiers who were part of the reconoissance unit and who were hidden in the town, when they heard the gunshots next to them, left a small basement where they were hiding, joining Sergeant Reickhart´s group.
At that moment, and attracted by the gunshots, a German unit made up of a corporal and four soldiers appear and start to shoot from a cover.
After the gunshot, the five Germans fall dead, claiming the lives of three American paratroopers.
After this skirmish they advance towards the remaining points of interest, finding a wounded German soldier hidden behind some boxes. This soldier tells them that he was part of a unit of 10 men who were advancing through the city, finding a group of hungry villagers asking for help.
When they let their guard down and were talking to the villagers, when less expected, they took out weapons that they had hidden (German and American weapons), killing several of their companions before the rest were taken as prisoners.
He was able to run away, being wounded by a shot, and instead of leaving the area he remained in the surroundings, watching his companions being taken to a nearby cemetery.
Of course he can tell them where the cemetery is ...
Episode two - On consecrated land
Sergeant Reickhart's unit advances in the dark, covered by forest and a stone wall. They can see a couple of stone mausoleums, although nobody is seen nearby.
One of the soldiers advances to reveal a point of interest, finding two people dressed in white robes, their faces covered and armed with American weapons, shooting at the soldier.
This soldier falls under the surprise enemy fire, and although the rest of the soldiers attack them with fury quickly they cannot avoid that that soldier dies in combat and another one is wounded before killing the two persons dressed in robes.
They proceed cautiously to the next point of interest, encountering two lost American soldiers who belonged to the missing unit who had sought refuge in the forest.
The entire unit approaches a small chapel from which a faint glow comes out of the windows. in silence they get close to the windows, seeing a Dantesque scene inside that takes their breath away.
A group of unarmed German soldiers on their knees are in the center of the room surrounded by several people dressed in white robes and obviously armed. One of these people who apparently belong to a sect is chanting some kind of ritual, while the rest watch over the unarmed soldiers chanting the same words quietly.
The sectaries (drawing a roll) discover the American soldiers in the windows, several of them running out of the chapel and firing, falling under the fire of our protagonists, butkilling one of them before. The paratroopers that are in the windows shoot down two cultists and injure another.
In the next turn, before the paratroopers can react, the three cultists shoot down the group of frightened German soldiers, who fallto the ground in a huge pool of blood.
The American soldiers shoot through the windows, killing the three remaining cultists, who fall to the ground, mixing their blood with that of the German soldiers.
the soldiers enter the chapel watching the dantesque scene with the mountain of corpses and blood, with the smell of smoke still in the air, and then they realize something ...
They notice how a slight stream of air begins to move in the room, and they see the blood on the floor move fluidly, like hiding under the corpses, various leaves, dust and dirt rise in the air forming a whirlpool with the increasing current of air...
Soldiers squint, shielding their eyes from the increasing streak of air, dust, and dirt, when suddenly ...
... from the darkness on one side an impossible figure seems to emerge, a kind of being that is hidden under a yellow robe, although it does not seem to have anything human, as soon as it appears it launches its tentacles against the terrified soldiers.
One of the soldiers is caught by the tentacles, falling amid cries of terror as his companions flee from the chapel, shooting incessantly, against the being who struggles to leave the chapel, seizing another soldier who suffers the same fate as his companion.
After several turns shooting non-stop, suddenly, the being makes some kind of cry that sounds like a gust of wind passing between some planks but at an atrocious volume, only to disappear into the darkness of one of the corners of the entrance to the chapel.
The three surviving soldiers, completely terrified, march trying to return to the location of the American troops, wondering if they would be able to tell what happened in this small town ...
... a small town, that as every town has its secrets ...
