AAR BATTLE REPORT pulp CHAOS IN CAIRO

This scenario belongs to the Chaos in Cairo ruleset, and I have adapted it to be played solo and to my own game system, which is very basic but complete, and just because it is so basic it allows you to play it alone, not having to take many things on account.

The game begins when the characters are contacted by an old well-known archaeologist, Wilbur Smith, who is in Cairo conducting excavations, he tells them that he has found a secret chamber in honor of "those we should not name", and that his discovery has been echoed by a strange group of Arabs.

Archaeologist Smith tells them that the cryptic hieroglyphs state that a statue could help bring one of "those we must not name" back to our world, and that is why he took the statue out of the burial chamber and planned to hide it, but that group Arabs, known as the followers of the Black Pharaoh, have stalked his henchman, who had to hide the statue in a Cairo neighborhood, followed by the group of Arabs.

The characters must find the figure in the neighborhood of Dar Es Salaam, and return it to the archaeologist to prevent this strange group of Arabs from performing the invocation.

Scene 1 Dar Es Salaam neighborhood

The green dots represent Plot Points, which are points of interest that must be checked by the characters and that could be the statue sought... and must be checked before the followers of the Black Pharaoh...

The idea is that every plot poiont represent a statue, bit there is only one real statue, the rest are fake, so until the end of the game, the player doesn´t know if he has the real statue.

The heroes, members of the Carlyle expedition, with Roger Carlyle in the center.

The heavily armed followers of the Black Pharaoh, with their leader in the center.

Both bands deploy on each side of the table, the plot points have been placed randomly, being very favorable for the sectarian side, since they have two plot points almost next to their deployment point.

Both sides advance swiftly in a race to get the highest number of points of interest, fighting bloody for the possession of them, shooting each other and creating chaos in the Cairo neighborhood.

The cultists take four plot points and the members of the expedition two of them, but the members of the expedition kill two cultists snatching the plot point they had captured.

The result is three plot points for each side ...

According to the game, only one of the plot points is the authentic figure necessary for the ritual, so once the game is over, the plot points are checked, giving the real figure to the cultists.

After investigating the area a bit, several people tell them that the cultists have fled in the direction of the excavations near Sailaam, in which the archaeologist Smith discovered the mortuary chamber in honor of "those whom we should not name"

Scene 2 The Sailaam Excavation

Once in the place, the characters see that there are several followers of the Black Pharaoh

Both sides face fiercely, but the dice give the followers of the Black Pharaoh victory in a fierce battle, ending with the members of the Carlyle expedition ko.

(The next day I realized that I had made a mistake in evaluating the characters of the expedition, giving them less life points and less attack capacity, basically confusing heroes with mere followers, and hence the followers of the Black Pharaoh could win the characters without much problem, but hey... the game was already played, so, I had to deal with it)

With the corresponding penalties for having lost the game, the characters face the last scene. These penalties cause one of the members of the Carlyle expedition to disappear, although one more collaborator (of a much lower level) joins the group. Other members have penalties in their dice rolls for the last game...

... inside the tomb...

Scene 3 Inside the mortuary chamber of "Those we should not name"

As I do not have the material to make the interior of a tomb in 3D, I decided to get some boards of Egyptian tombs from Heroic Maps, very detailed and very cool, although in 2D ... But I think they made it pretty well...

For this episode, Roger Carlyle will stay at home recovering from the injuries suffered, and several of the members of the expedition suffer various negative modifiers given the poor results of the last game.

This game is designed in a dungeon style, completely random... the rooms and the monsters will be generated by a dice roll in a chart.

The intrepid adventurers descend the steps of the mortuary chamber, ending in a wide room with two small water fountains, and when they least expect it, from the shadows appear two beings wrapped in yellowish bandages brandishing two swords and shields of Egyptian warriors ... .

The two beings fall in the fight, becoming a pile of dust and rags ...

Our heroes advance to the next room, finding a long room with columns, in which suddenly appear several shapes wrapped in shrouds advancing in the dark ...

And finally they reach the main room, where they can see on an altar the statue they had been following from Cairo, next to the dismembered corpse of a follower of the Black Pharaoh ...

And from everywhere they see beings advancing between the columns!

After several turns they manage to corner the mummified warrior and kill the mummies that were crawling around the room, killing everyone and managing to recover the sacred statue ...

The members of the expedition, now with the statue in their possession, go to the archaeologist Smith to explain what happened and see what they can do with the statue in their fight to avoid the followers of the Balck Pharaon´s plan to bring back any of "those we should not name"...

P.S. Although it is in 2D the board looks very good,.. the maps of Heroic Maps do not disappoint.

    1. The scifi maps are top... I bought some of them to play aliens.

I hope that as my little children grow up I'll have more time to play with people...

      I miss real opponents... 😔
